The 2010 edition of the Geneva Health Forum aims to elucidate the global issues that directly or indirectly influence health systems, which in turn impact society as a whole. As a global network for international and inter-sectoral dialogue, the forum is expected to bring together over 1,000 participants (medical practitioners, policy makers, private sector, international organizations, NGOs and journalists) to discuss sustainable responses to crises, which ensure comprehensive primary healthcare, access to medicines, and prevention. The Forum will also address the power imbalances at the origin of most social inequalities in health. This 26th Media21 workshop – the 5th dedicated to health – will provide an exceptional opportunity for journalists, editors and producers to share experiences while improving their knowledge and contacts. Apart from attending sessions of the Forum, journalists will take part in specially-tailored panel dis-cussions. They will be able to meet and interact with high level international players. Such encounters can provide interviews and background insight for exploring numerous story ideas, among them: can the crisis heal the health system, sprawling cities, drug resistance, counterfeit medecine, community involvement, access to health for migrants, trade and markets, impact of traffic accidents on health systems, E-health and self-informed patients, etc. (see theme list on www.ghf10.org/reports/143) Workshop Objectives- Exposure of 15 journalists from all continents on the challenges of local and global health govern-ance- Meetings, interviews and interaction with global actors participating in the Forum - Improved knowledge of international efforts on this issue - Understanding of the interdisciplinary links between health issues and other major planetary chal-lenges: climate change, financial crisis, humanitarian aid, water management, food security, social inequity, global mobility, urbanization - Acquisition of a contact list of experts and key players - Experience sharing among journalists from diverse regions and backgrounds - Field experience: health problems and new solutions in a developing country. - Production of articles, broadcast reports, blogs… during and after the workshop, to be later pub-lished in the participants own media and in the Media21 On Assignment magazine.
