CLIMATE CHANGE IV ANTICIPATING CLIMATE RISKS A Media21 journalist workshop during the 3rd World Climate Conference
Field Trips: Bangladesh, Mali or California (to be confirmed), 5-10 September
Concept The 3rd World Climate Conference (WWC3) will help to integrate climate predictions in the policy-making of all sectors: energy, agriculture, urban planning, transports, construction, health, economy, etc. Media play a crucial role in bridging the gap between providers and users of climate science. This is particularly important for saving lives, protecting the people and preventing economic losses against the risks of droughts, famine, disease, sea level rise – but also for highlighting opportunities and solutions such as renewable energies, new crops, sustainable tourism. This 20th Media21 workshop - the 4th dedicated to climate change – will be a unique opportunity for journalists, editors and producers to share experience and improve their knowledge. Apart from attending some of the sessions of WCC3, journalists will take part in specially-tailored panel sessions and be able to meet with high level international players from UN agencies, humanitarian organizations, private sector, academia, governments, and media. 1000 high level decision makers and providers of climate services are expected to attend WCC3. Workshop partners World Meteorological Organization, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Environment Programme (tbc), Swiss Government, UICN, WWF International, Veolia, Cadbury, Shell, Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, World business Council for Sustainable Development, Geneva Press Club, Institut des Sciences de l’environnement/University of Geneva Course of the sessions Everyday, journalist will attend WCC3 sessions according to personal interest or editorial distribution of coverage, as well as specially-tailored panels for journalists and editorial meetings, interviews or individual research. Instant production of On Assignment, Media21 webzine composed of participants' articles produced during the workshop. Location CICG (International Conference Centre of Geneva), rue de Varembé 17 Field trips (optional) Depending on the funding, one or more visits of climate-related projects or issues (proposed destinations: California, Mali ). The trips will also present local initiatives and solutions. Expected Results
